Greatest Hits - Election Story by Video

Remarks of Illinois State Sen. Barack Obama Against Going to War with Iraq
October 02, 2002
What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

Great Interview

TO: barbara.west@wftv.com

I just watched your interview with Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden.

You were obviously asking questions straight out of John McCain's talking points.
It is esp. important for Local TV News in this changing world of journalism to be non-partisan and hold the publics trust. People now have
a great choice of where to go for news. It is impossible for your station to compete if people decide you are not fair and trustworthy.
Studies show this is true even for most of the people that agree with you!
How does it serve your customers and advertisers to fling outrageous "when did you stop hitting your wife" type questions at Joe Biden or any other public servant? All the info on ACORN even an intern can lookup at factcheck.org (it is complete non-issue and meant to distract people from real issues) and the tax policy OBAMA supports is essentially the same one MCCAIN supported in 2001 and 2003.
Since when is progressive tax Marxist? Have not the people of your community seen real wages go down? Have not you noticed that the
top dogs in corporate America's boardrooms have been voting each other larger and larger salaries and other compensation?

When OBAMA campaign accepted your invitation to interview I am sure they expected professional behavior on the behalf of your station.
You probably know of the great difference in number and range of interviews between BIDEN and PALIN. You should feel thankful for the
chance to have an interview and used this opportunity for yourself and your community to ask original questions with local spin. Certainly in
this age of great challenges in the economy, global warming (that affects FL directly), international stress in almost every continent (Russia, Iran, N. Korea, China emerging, Africa and S. America). plus 2 wars.
Your chance to make news yourself!! You blew it on ACORN?

You could have asked a general question about voter registration and suppression in light of the 2000 FL election problems.
ACORN has been around since 1970 and is not an evil organization out to fraud America with Micky Mouse voters. They
are trying to "get out the vote" for class of Americans that are under represented at the polls. This organization and mission has been
praised by non other than John McCain. They pay people by the hour and do not pay people to commit voter registration fraud.
IN FACT THEY HELP IDENTIFY AND CONVICT PEOPLE THAT DO.
A small number of the people for whatever reason summit these phony registrants. This has nothing to do with voter fraud but is
easily confused with voter fraud (See Sean Hannitty).
Obama's links to ACORN are old (nothing this year) and honorable.

This whole story is targeted at uneducated people trying to confuse them about OBAMA - you have a "Master Degree" (in what?) so
how did you get fooled into going down this path?

Meanwhile, a real issue this year and esp. in FLORIDA will be voter suppression. Many thousands of people , Republicans and Democrats,
will be denied chance to vote for various reasons - some innocent and some not. These are actual VOTERS. Not funny names
filled in on registration forms just to make it look like Joe the Acorn was "working" when they were actually goofing off.

You could do your customers and fellow citizens a favor and make sure the real news focus on this real problem.

I hope this helps give some perspective.

McCain and Taxes for the Rich

What is so flip-floppy about the Joe PLUMBER stupidness is that Sen. and "Mavorick" John McCain was against the BUSH tax cuts!

McCain was one of two Republican senators to vote against a $1.35 trillion tax cut that Bush proposed in 2001. McCain also voted against similar plans in 2003, as well as a proposed repeal of the federal estate tax.
McCain said they disproportionately benefited the wealthy.
I think he meant they spread the wealth to the wealthy to much.

Because he not only flipped but now used divisive language and fear tactics to discuss this policy disagreement.

The New Hampshire polls are a great "Mavorick Detector".
If you have never actually seen the conversation between Joe and OBAMA here it is:

Youngs Turks take on Joe the Plumber vs Sarah Palin's clothes.

John McCain was for ACORN before he was against ACORN

Maude Hurd, of ACORN, responding to McCain's ACORN attack ads:

”For almost a decade, ACORN, a community organization of 400,000 families in neighborhoods across the country, has been fighting against the predatory lending practices that have robbed our members of their homes, destabilized neighborhoods, and roiled the global economy.”

“In his newest ad, John McCain’s campaign bizarrely claims, “ACORN forced banks to issue risky home loans, the same types of loans that caused the financial crisis we're in today.” Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, ACORN has worked successfully to help working class families get good home loans on fair terms from legitimate banks and has fought vigorously against predatory lenders who have ripped off families in our communities. These predatory loans caused the crisis.”

“For more than a decade, ACORN members have held protests, released reports, and advocated for regulations to protect homeowners from predatory lenders. ACORN organizers and volunteers have been working day and night to help victims of the GOP economic meltdown to save their homes from foreclosure. In fact, ACORN has brought class action lawsuits against several predatory lenders, and has lobbied the Federal Reserve and Congress in support of regulations against predatory lending. ACORN has even been successful in convincing many lenders to treat homeowners more fairly and help families be able to make their mortgage payments and save their homes.”

“Unfortunately, the Bush administration and Congressional Republicans like John McCain have blocked the sensible regulations that ACORN and others proposed that would have averted the mortgage meltdown. If John McCain thinks that community organizers caused the foreclosure crisis, he knows even less about the economy than previously thought.”

”John McCain and the Republicans are desperately trying to shift the blame for the economic crisis they caused with a philosophy of deregulation and indifference to homeowners. All the grainy footage and creepy music in the world can't cancel out some simple, basic facts, and the facts about the economy are not on John McCain's side.”

"We appreciate that Senator McCain's effort to stir up the Republican base by attacking a community group that is trying to increase public participation in our democratic processes. However, these attacks reflect an increasingly panicky candidate; unfortunately the Senator McCain we saw tonight is very different than the Senator McCain who stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN at a February 20, 2006 immigration reform event.

It is clear for us to see that John McCain was for ACORN before he was against ACORN; he was for reform before he was against reform; and he was a maverick before he became erratic. What is really going here is that Senator McCain and his allies are part of a coordinated effort to engage in what appears to be an unprecedented effort to suppress voter turnout."

Sarah Support Right To Privacy and CHOICE?

COURIC (to Palin): Do you think there's an inherent right to privacy in the Constitution?

PALIN: I do. Yeah, I do.

COURIC: the cornerstone of Roe v Wade

also:
COURIC: Palin says she makes no apologies for her pro-life views and opposes abortion, even in the case of rape or incest.

Gov. PALIN: I'm saying that personally I would counsel that person to choose life, despite horrific, horrific circumstances that this person would find themselves in. And if you're asking, though, kind of foundationally here should anybody end up in jail for having had an abortion, absolutely not. That's nothing that I would ever support.

So, is it just me or isn't this basically saying she is pro choice?

MCCAIN: For or Against Keeping Cars In Tune and Tires Properly Inflated?

Introduce the subject:

Someone asked OBAMA what can they do as an individual and he told them how
important it is to keep tires inflated car tuned properly etc. Experts believe
this could reduce 3-4% of fuel we use. This is somethjing that woiuld help NOW
and wold have a bigger impact that the LONG-TERM benefits of increased offshore drilling.

Responsively Leave Iraq

Sept 12th, 2007, Sen. OBAMA calls for immediate withdrawal from Iraq that could be
completed by March.
Sense then he has "refined" the withdrawal as "responsible removal" that is as a rate
of 1 to 2 combat brigades per month which may take as long as 16 months.
Is this a flip-flop? HAs he jumped to the MCCAIN position as the MCCAIN comments July 3rd claim?

No. The essential difference is that OBAMA as commander in chief will set the mission to leave while MCCAIN's mission to "commanders on the ground" is to win the war no matter how long it takes.

Joint FISA Flip Flopping

Some background:

I understand the FISA law must be brought into the internet age but I do not see how any red blooded American can vote for a bill that lets the government take away our freedoms and liberty.

I agree with the ACLU on this one.

OffSHore Drilling - Good Idea all of a sudden

Thanks to The Huffington Post for this source of John McCain "late May" position
:

"[W]ith those resources, which would take years to develop, you would only postpone or temporarily relieve our dependency on fossil fuels," McCain said when asked about offshore drilling. "We are going to have to go to alternative energy, and the exploitation of existing reserves of oil, natural gas, even coal, and we can develop clean coal technology, are all great things. But we also have to devote our efforts, in my view, to alternative energy sources, which is the ultimate answer to our long-term energy needs, and we need it sooner rather than later."
Now
"I believe it is time for the federal government to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use," he said on Tuesday, "as a matter of fairness to the American people, and a matter of duty for our government, we must deal with the here and now, and assure affordable fuel for America by increasing domestic production."

MCCAIN's BIG FLIP-FLOP:
This is a very big flip=flop because Sen. McCain has been known as a greener Republican. Now this is just pure political pandering like the gas tax rebate.
It is also simular to the gas tax rebate in that only the big oil companies will see any benefit.

Listen to Barack on off shore drilling.

My own opinion:
I think the oil is like a long term investment. Someday, maybe soon, people will realize it is much to valuable to be used just to burn (as in heating and combustion engines). So, ujntil then, let's keep it safe under the sea.
If it had been drilled years ago it would be gone.
Context/Priorities:

First we need to solve the long term problem and our incompetent government cannot seem to solve any problems unless they are faced with a crises. So, save the oil to be used as an ingredient for value added products and solve the "gas" problem with alternatives and conservation.
Big Oil:
When the time comes we should hire one big oil company to manage/oversee the drilling and sub-contract others to do the work. The USA should take the profits and use them to help pay off the war debt (or something everyone would be proud of).
Save the Planet
Might as well note that the big elephant in the room is not
$4 dollar gas prices but our actual planet is about to suicide itself because of human carelessness.

OBAMA Flips on Insiders in Campaign: Jackson's Mortgage

Hello,
The problem is reported by the WSKJ here:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121279970984353933.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

basically, James Johnson an adviser to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign, got a 6.375% loan when the market average loan was 6.2%!! And two other loans 5.25% when 6.2% and 3,875% when 4.3%.

Obama's answer is here:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/10/obama-no-vetting-the-vetters/
Quote is heart of the answer: "He said that he would not perform a thorough scrub of all of those assigned to perform specific tasks for his campaign.

“This is a game that can be played, everybody who is tangentially related to our campaign is going to have a whole host of relationships,” he said, responding to criticism of Mr. Johnson’s ties to Countrywide from Senator John McCain and the Republican National Committee. “I’d have to hire a vetter to vet the vetters.”"

THE FLIP-FLOPPER ANALYSIS:
I have to agree with Obama on this one. What is the guy to do? But also
the basic principle is that he does not want people in his government that owe something to anyone except the Americans. In this case the people that need vetting are the VEEP candidates not the VETTErs as they, so far, are not part of the government.

Meanwhile, I got to say that even a person working for the FANNIE MAE is entitled to get a mortgage and the best deals he got was after he left FANNIE MAY. THe first loan was probably typcial for people in his financial risk situation.

McCain in New Orleans: Katrina Support Flop

June 3rd, 2008 in New Orleans Sen. MCCAIN said he was always a great supporter of the Hurricane Katrina victims but here is his press release from a week afterward (immediately before and during he was busy with BUSH celebrating his birthday):

Senators McCain and Coburn Call on Congress to Make Sacrifices to Fund Hurricane Relief Effort

September 6, 2005

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) issued the following joint statement today calling on Congress to “lead by example” by cutting back on pork-barrel and other unnecessary spending to help fund the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

“Hurricane Katrina is one of the worst national tragedies in our history. Whenever our nation experiences a tragedy Americans come together and make sacrifices to help their neighbors. Individual Americans who are donating their time and money and opening their homes to evacuees are reminding us what sacrificing means. Sacrificing means giving up something you want in order give someone else something they need.”

“If Congress wants to inspire the American people to continue to make sacrifices we need to be making sacrifices of our own. The costs of the recovery and relief effort will be enormous. Congress must do all that is necessary to fund essential relief and recovery efforts and help those in need. However, to the extent that it is possible, we should pay for this effort now rather than pass on even more debt to future generations.”

“Members of Congress should, at least temporarily, deny themselves a few of the comforts of political office and refrain from directing tax dollars to special projects in their states that might help their political campaigns but not necessarily the country as a whole. In the past year Congress has found a way to fund thousands of projects of questionable merit. Perhaps a few of those dollars could have been better spent on activities that might have limited the impact of this tragedy.”

“Congress should be asking hard questions of every agency involved in the relief effort but first we should ask ourselves hard questions. We should lead by example and give up a few of the things we want in order to give hurricane victims the things they need.”

Behind the nice political sound bites the gist of his message is that he is worried that to much support for victims will spoil the budget (unlike the trillion dollar war that should never have been authorized and never have been waged).

Clinton Big Flip Flop on MI/FL

This one seems to be easy and is so well known. I am not sure I can add much to for examples just
Google Clinton Florida Michigan flip
.
But, I mention it because this weekend the Democratic Party will review how many delegates from Florida and Michigan to seat.

So, for the record, this is A BIG FAT LIE for CLINTON. One way or the other there is a BIG FAT LIE somewhere in the whole history of her position on FL and MI delegate seating. What are campaigns for but to stress out candidates and judge them by their decisions? In this case the FLIP-FLOP and rhetoric is so obviously related to her own self interest it makes us gag. Even residents of MI/FL must be embarrassed by her outright lies about voter rights.

On the smile side here is a favorite "news clip" of mine:

McCain and Hamas

Senator John McCain has flopped on many issues the lastest one is "dealing with Hamas":

Some commentary:

Most of the flip-flopping since 2008 has been driven by his need to connect o the GOP base.

Listen at the end when they discuss how he told folks at a party in 2000
that he did not vote for Bush. Now, he says he did vote for Bush!

What is a Flip Flop

When a person changes their opinion with no changes in the information used to determine an opinion. So, I am not going to accuse someone of being a flip-flopper when they change their opinion based on new evidence.
A partial flip-flop is when someone makes an opinion or takes action based on underlying philosophy and later changes their action/opinion but not the underlying philosophical stance. A good example of this is BARACK OBAMA stance on public funding and the evils of being beholden to givers of large donations. After he built network of over 1.5 million small donors he seems to have opted out of public funding of the general campaign. So, this is a partial flip-flop.
Maybe someone could suggest a better name?

A BIG FAT LIE is when a person won't own up to their flip-flopping. This seems to be the case with MCCAIN and "dealing with" Hamas.
